What better way to see the Smoky Mountain National Park, out hiking through the trees. Our area sports many hikes and trails, for all types of Hikers. With close to 900 miles of wilderness trails,the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a hiker’s paradise.
And with 40 percent of the national park in Swain County, many of those trails are easily accessible from Bryson City. You’ll find a number of trailheads in the Deep Creek area of the Park, just two miles north of town, and also off Lakeview Drive (the “Road to Nowhere”) eight miles north of Bryson City.
Smoky Mountain Jetboats offers three guides hikes of various difficulty. All in the National park, Starting with
Goldmine Loop -This season we offer a shorter hike alternative for the combination trip. This 45-minute walk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will take you by the remains of an old homestead - where wild hogs and sometimes black bears are seen and then it's on to the lake for lunch and time for a swim before the jet boat picks us up for the exciting ride across the lake.
The Forney Creek Hike - most popular hike
We take you out to the end of the Road to Nowhere and hike through a tunnel and then on down to Lake Fontana - through some of the most beautiful forest of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Lunch, snacks and refreshments are provided. Time for a swim in the lake and then thrilling jet boat ride finishes the trip - allow four hours for the total adventure.
Extreme Combo Hike and Jetboat Ride hiking down from Clingman's Dome (over 6,400 ft.) to Lake Fontana - 6-8 hours walking through the five types of forest - what an adventure! Lunch, snacks, refreshments and time for a swim before the thrilling jet boat ride and return transportation to the office.
